Obituary of John Joseph McConeghy
John Joseph ''Jack'' McConeghy, age 73, of Wayne passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Hackensack University Medical Center,surrounded by his loving family. Mr. McConeghy was born May 15, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late John and the late Catherine (Eul) McConeghy. He lived in Wayne since 1964. After graduating from St. Francis College in Brooklyn in 1956, where he captained the baseball team, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he attained the rank as Corporal. After his commission ended, he joined Monroe Systems for Business in NY,NY where he was employed for 37 years, retiring in 1996. During his tenure at Monroe, he held various positions in sales and management and received National recognition for his achievements and dedication. A devout Catholic, Jack was a parishioner of Our Lady Of The Valley R. C. Church, Wayne. Actively involved in raising his children, he volunteered and coached for a number of years for the Wayne P.A.L., including a number of championship teams. Jack served as President of the PTA of Holy Cross Grammer School and proudly as a DePaul Father. He was a hugh sports fan and loved the Mets and the NY Giants. Of all his accomplishments, Jack was most proud of his family and and his devotion to them was evident to anyone who knew him. The greatest gifts he gave to both his family and friends was his time and loyalty and he will be remembered by all as a truly humble and great man.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 52 years, : Joan ( neeBurnett) , four sons: John, Jr. and his wife Gina of Wayne, Craig and his wife Susan of Kinnelon, Robert and his wife Suzanne of Glen Ridge, Michael and his wife Mary of Wayne, one daughter: Mary Anne and her Husband John Groh of Haworth,one sister: Kathleen and her husband Peter Kopyscianski of Southport, NC, one brother: Thomas and his wife Cynthia of Frenchville, PA and 7 adoring, grandchildren, Kaitlyn,Jack, Michael John,and Kyle McConeghy and Zane and Skyler Groh.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Kim.
Visiting hours will be Monday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at Our Lady Of The Valley R. C. Church, 630 Valley Rd., Wayne. Private Cremation will follow.
