We are so sorry we couldn't be there in person to offer our thoughts on Jack and share your grief. But that doesn't lessen our sorrow. Joan, you and your kids should be so proud of Jack. Most of all, Jack was a family man in the best sense of the words. Although we are so sad right now, we will always remember the good times and the bad, mostly good! Remembering and reliving the good times together made us laugh out loud at the some of the things Jack did and said and the pasionate way he had of stating his opinions. We cherish those times and the memories of Jack.

I REMEMBER MEETING MR AND MRS. JACK McCONEGHY BACK IN THE EARLY FALL OF 1987. THEIR YOUNGEST SON MIKE PLAYED FOOTBALL WITH ME AT HOFSTRA AND WAS ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS. WHEN SOMEONE DIES PEOPLE OFTEN THINK ABOUT THAT PERSON AND TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THE PERSON'S LIFE. ALOT OF TIMES YOU WONDER WHAT WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO THE PERSON. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN MR McCONEGHY'S LIFE WAS HIS FAMILY. I REMEMBER HIM AT OUR FOOTBALL GAMES BEING SO PROUD OF MIKE AND SLIPPING HIS OTHER KIDS INTO THE CONVERSATION--HE WOULD ALWAYS SAY HOW SMART AND PRETTY MARYANNE WAS OR HOW GOOD CRAIG AND JOHN WERE DOING AT WORK. I REMEMBER HIM SAYING HOW GIFTED JOHN WAS WITH HIS HANDS AND HOW CRAIG AND MICHAEL WERE SIMILAR BECAUSE THEY WOULD ALWAYS TRY AND PUSH HIS BUTTONS.I WAS CLOSE WITH ROBERT MIKE'S OLDER BROTHER BY A YEAR SO I WAS AT THE McCONEGHY'S HOUSE A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN MR McC HAD TO LET THE BOYS KNOW WHO WAS BOSS.
NOW, AGAIN I RETURN BACK TO MY ORIGNAL THOUGHT. WHAT WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO MR McCONEGHY. IT WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT HIS FAMILY. HE WAS SO PROUD OF HIS KIDS AND HIS GRANDKIDS. I WILL DEFINITELY MISS HIM BECAUSE OF HIS STRENGTH BUT YOU LOOK AT EVERYTHING HE HAS LEFT BEHIND AND YOU KNOW HE WILL BE SMILING DOWN ON YOU GUYS AND WATCHING. MIKE PLEASE GIVE YOUR MOM A KISS FOR ME.

We are so very sorry that we couldn't be there in person to share in your grief, but that doesn't lessen our sorrow and enduring memories of Jack. When we talk about Jack, not only do we remember his steadfastness and loyalty to his family and friends, we remember so many incidents over the years that make us laugh out loud. Those many years are cherished years -- years of raising our families and knowing we were all in it together, the good times and the bad, but overwhelming good. Our thoughts are with you all now. We hope it is a comfort to know that Jack was so very proud of his family.

Dear McConeghy's:
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband, father, grandfather. Mr. McConeghy was a great man and I have very fond memories of him. I will always remember him as Coach (Arkin's Jewelry, Burger King). I still have great memories of watching sports at your house and listening to your dad's 'strong' opinions on his teams.... My family will keep Mr. McConeghy and your family in our prayers for the next days and weeks. Respectfully, John Gunther
