We are blessed and honored to have known Al, if only for a few years. His kind heart and love of life were an inspiration to us. May his beautiful wife, Alice, and his extended family and friends find peace when they remember Al.

Thanks for doing this....I just went to the site and read the candles too. My Grandfather really enjoyed the computer, and all of the things you taught him to do. It is a mixture of sadness and joy when I walk by his computer station in PA. The certificate you created for him when he learned how to add sound is still hanging up, and I know how many people loved getting his emails daily. Made you feel good knowing he was online some how. So many people will miss him, and speaking for myself, I am happy to see how much he touched others lives; through his actions and kindnesses to others, he will always live on. Thank you for helping him with the computer, and being there for him.

I met Alice and Al in April 1962, when Dick's Mother died. Immediately I felt like I had known them for years. They were/are the kind of friends you could pick up the pieces of a conversation that was started 2 yrs earlier. He truly was a kind and generous person with much love to give.I'll never forget our camping trip to Turkey Swamp in Freehold or the awning he made for our travel trailer(his first)I also cried with joy when I saw him on TV carring the Olympic Dlag- and was very PROUD to say I know him. His saying was frequently quoted in this household of "it's all in the attitude" What a way to live! It was a pleasure to shared his friendship for over 45 years. I also LOVE Alice very much. Please keep in touch. Love Pat

Sometimes, once in a great while you meet people who totally affect your life. Al Wedlake was like that for me. I was a therapist at a rehab facility when I met Al, we went on to become fast friends. I whatched this man grow into a very sincere and committed activist for people with disabilities. Al always would tell me how important I was in his recovery. It wasent me, it was Al's spirit and sense of self that made him a survivor and a great human being. I hope and pray that as I age I have the humanity and just plain decency that Al represented. The world will be a little less lighter with his loss and for myself I will try to live up to what I learned from this decent and gentle man.

We met Al in the Fall of 2001. We were the "new kids" on the block. I enjoy cooking and would share my desserts and meals with Al and Alice. Al always bragged on my cooking and was always happy to see me coming over with some goodies. I hope he knew just how much enjoyment I felt when I would took something over to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He was like family. We would go over and visit and during Al and Alice's story telling, he would say to Alice, you tell it your way and then I will tell it my way.(With a twinkle in his eye) We will be going back to Englewood in late October. Al will be missed tremendously. Thank goodness we will have Alice with her sparkling eyes and loving smile. Al was a wonderful man. He will live in our hearts each day. I'm sure he is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Yes, I was his email buddy. I always looked forward to his emails. The ones with music, some peaceful, some bringing back old songs with lots of memories, and some very relaxing were listened to over and over. I enjoyed emailing him back all my most recent emails that I had received from others. It was sad to take him off my address book.

My Grandmother was born in Patterson also, so Al filled me in on all the beauty that "used to be" in that area.I've been Al and Alices' neighbor for just two years and this Spring Al decided that I was "OK" , shouldn't move away and gave me Fatherly advice. Miss you Al..

I will always remember Al's wonderful sense of humor! He was always quick to share a smile. Al would do anything to help a friend in need. He married a wonderful gal when he found Alice. We met him in Venice and found his heart to be full of gold.

As a young boy my best friend was Al's son Jim. I was always over at the Wedlakes and had great respect for Mr. Wedlake as I called him then. When he spoke you listened because there was usually life's lesson to be learned. Honest to the core he often taught by example and I am thankful to have spent so much time in his company. Later in life he referred to me a son #2. Knowing him as I do, that was a pretty special title. I regret not having spent more time with him in recent years, but I always looked forward to his faithful emails and his positive attitude. I will miss him, but know that his strength and integrity lives on in all that knew him.

Good by Old Friend…
I can remember the first time we met. It was back in 1989 before you had the mishap on your machine. You were active in the Coast Guard watch and had a boat of your own. We went out on that boat that night, You, Alice, My Mother-in-Law Anna Van Houten, my Wife Ruth and Me. Alice had a thermos of coffee and we stopped out on the water and all had a cup. That was a first for me and I never forgot it.
All the good times we had with the Computer, me sending you the Music and you learning how to hook it up to you E-MAIL, and you did it. I loved doing it with you.
Now it’s time to say so long and may God take a liking to you and keep you close to his heart….Till we meet again old friend….Jack K-----

I remember meeting Albert many years ago as a child. I lived on
Smith Lane, Wayne, NJ and visited and spent time with George and Ann Sharpe and especially with their daughter, Denise. I haven't been in touch in years and have no idea where they are. I wanted to relay my sympathy to Albert's family.
