Dear Mike: I have enjoyed our friendship through these many years, and it has been a privilege to have known you. I will miss you, but it is comforting to know that your suffering is over and you have gone on to a better place. I'll be joining you one of these days. Until then. I'll have fond memories of days past and of our frienship.
Farewell until we meet again.
Your OLD buddy and friend.

Lucille and Mike and I lived in Hollywood, Florida. I met Mike at a Business Dinner Meeting. Sitting across from me, he introduced himself and said “I would like you to be my wife’s friend.”
When I met his wife, Lucille, we hit it off right away. She joined me in my weekly card came the very next day and we immediately became true friends – a friendship that has lasted for over fifty years now. We were in touch with each other almost every day. Together we rented a cabana and rooms at the Hollywood Beach Hotel and the Diplomat Hotel each summer for many years.
When my husband Bernie died I couldn’t have wished for a better friend than Mike. He was comforting and gave me valuable advice while really watching over me. I had many dinners with Mike and Lucille at their home at that time, often followed either by a game of backgammon or with Mike making a fourth, a game of canasta.
One thing I particularly remember was both frightening and funny. During a hurricane I took my daughters, Susan and Carole, my dog and my cat and moved in with Mike and Lucille. Mike and I used rope to tie one mattress to an awning and another over the sliding glass doors. We held those ropes for hours to protect us all from the possibility of shattered glass.
I will miss Mike, his jokes and his teasing, as well as his frequent phone calls. As recently as two weeks ago, as sick as he was, Mike phoned me to see how I was feeling following my surgery a day or two earlier.
I love you Mike and will miss you very much.
