My deepest sympathies to the Giles family. I attended OLV, and although Mrs Giles taught my brother and sisters, she was not my second grade teacher. Despite that she was not my teacher, one of my fondest memories of my time at OLV was of Mrs Giles. She was always so kind and caring to all of the students at OLV. She always remembered students long after their graduations from OLV. I have always felt this world needed more teachers like Mrs. Giles. She was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person, and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Mrs. Giles was my second grade teacher at Our Lady of the Valley. She was one of very few teachers (after many years of school including a masters degree) who left an indelible mark on my life. She was warm and wonderful. Her classroom was a safe haven and a place I looked forward to being every day.
I have thought of her often over the years, especially after my own two children entered school. I hoped and do hope that my children will have the experience of knowing a teacher who will gently guide them and teach them to respect others and themselves as Mrs. Giles did for me.
My condolences to all of the family. I am sorry for you all but truly grateful that I had the privilege to know Joanne Giles.
