So sorry for your loss Barb & Nancy. You both know how much I always loved your family. As Barb knows I have very few childhood memories (seem to have blocked out most of them, unfortunately) but I do remember your mom being the most stable/caring adult I had in my life growing up, and that if not for your dad feeding me all the time I would have starved for sure.
I do remember going to the Cider Mill to eat ALL the time (other than when your mom brought it home for us), hanging out on top of the walk-in freezer in the back, and sneaking additional ice cream cones behind his back because we were only supposed to have one (and him catching us occasionally). I even have memories of him hanging out in your backyard watching us while we swam or played (and getting annoyed with us for being too loud or whatever) too.
And of course there was the Mama-Anna (and ice cream) incident, Barb I am sure you remember that! But mostly I just remember him working so hard at the Cider Mill all kinds of hours, and us trying to stay out from underfoot and sneak ice cream cones. I still say your dad made the best burgers & ice cream I ever had, I remember nothing ever compared. And then of course your first cars, they were both so cool I couldn't believe your dad picked them out for you. I think that was the first I ever even heard of car auctions (where I ended up working yrs later).
Bye Mr. Laauwe, and Thanks for all the food!!
