Obituary of Sila Suri
Sila Suri (née Martinez) passed away peacefully and quietly on Sunday, January 16, 2022, with her family at her bedside.
Sila was born in Central Florida, Cuba and moved to the United States in 1957. She was Cuban by birth, but she had the American Dream in her eyes from an early age. Settling in Paterson, NJ, she lived a full life with her husband, Emilio, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandson, and many friends.
She and Emilio spent their entire adult lives living in Paterson, where she started a business as a dressmaker and seamstress. She loved her work and built a clientele of hundreds of beloved customers (forming a strong friendship with many of them) from all parts of Northern Jersey. Her portfolio of work included wedding dresses, prom dresses, custom fitted dresses and alterations.
Apart from her work, she enjoyed many activities, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family in New Jersey and North Carolina. Always active, she enjoyed socializing, dining and vacationing with her family and close friends. And, anyone that knows her will also know that she loved the casino life, spending a lot of time with her husband in Atlantic City, Las Vegas and the Caribbean.
She was loved by all for her caring nature, sense of humor, competitiveness (she was ruthless at Scrabble) and her fearlessness.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Emilio; Her son, Joshua, and his wife, Teresa, of Westfield, NJ, and their children (Max and Nate); Her daughter, Elizabeth Corcoran, and her husband, John, of Waxhaw, NC, and their children (Bridget and Margot)… and, of course, her great-grandson, Rafael.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 21 from 2 pm until 6 pm at Moore's Home for Funerals, 1591 Alps Road, Wayne, NJ, with a prayer service at 5 pm.
A private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research (lustgarten.org).
