Dear Bobby, Tommy and Richie, I was so sad to hear of your mother’s passing. Aunt Doris was very special to the Harrigan girls. She was our Mom’s best friend when they were in high school and remained a dear friend until our Mom died. I wonder if you remember your trips to Moosup. Your mom was always thoughtful, always encouraging, always gracious. I am thankful she was part of our lives. How blessed you are to have had such a special Mom. Patty Harrigan Arnio

I'll concur with Pat that our Aunt Doris was always encouraging, and positive. She also loved sending Eleanor's daughter's girlie gifts, which I get, now that I've had 3 sons. Her surprise packages held pot holders, dish towels, clippings that caught her eye and always a newsie lettter with the latest about her much adored children and grandchildren. She also wanted to know how you were doing. And she was always happy to share stories about the old days and her adventures with our mom. Remember the trip to the sub base in New London? How they laughed later telling the tale about climbing down the ladder of the submarines in heels and tight skirts. She was fun, warm and classy. I will miss her. Chris Harrigan Tuxill

Hello Patty - Thank you very much for your note, and yes we recall our trips to Moosup. Our mothers had a very special friendship. I know that because I saw their friendship as a child and I heard my mother talk about her dear Eleanor as an adult. She loved the Harrigan girls and you were just as special to her as she was to you. Bob

Hi Patty and Christine, Thank you both for your notes. Eleanor and Doris were best friends beginning in HS. I have fond memories of your mother also and the trips to Moosup (you guys had great vegetable gardens) and I remember visiting your grandparents in Clifton and your Aunt Dorothy who made us all laugh. My mother would remember how kind your grandmother was at the time she (age 15) lost her mom to cancer. All the best to you and your families, Tom

My memories are of beautiful days, hours and years as a next-door neighbor of Doris'. She was a fine lady who shared the warmth of her heart and endless years of hospitality with the Castell family. Always taking time to listen and interact with those around her, she had a profound impact on the people she met. After our mother Gloria passed I continued to correspond with Doris on her behalf. Detailed letters and magazine clippings showed her great interest in others. So thank you Doris for showing us how to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Sincerely, Cathy

Hi Kathy - Thank you very much. It's so interesting to hear you say that you received magazine clippings. So many people have mentioned that she would reach out to them by sending clippings that she believed would be of interest to the recipient. My mother loved Gloria - they held a special friendship. My dad had a similar relationship with your dad. My mother's passing has released a flood of memories of my childhood. Anyway, thank you for reaching out.

Our heartfelt and deepest of condolences to Rich, Bob and Tom at this difficult time. The Castell family wishes you healing with the wonderful memories of your mom. She was like a mother to myself, growing up in your kitchen with homemade lunches and playing games with Richie in the playroom. What a powerhouse she was running the family business and keeping herself active and walking around the lake. She was my mom's best long-time friend at Pines Lake. She always wanted the best of everything for you as well as an advocate of higher learning. She succeeded. You're all brilliant. She will be missed. May she rest In peace. John Castell

John, thanks so much for the kind words she was a powerhouse! Always working and being productive with her sole downtime spent curled up with books. John, you're in all of my favorite childhood memories, always kind smiling and radiant. Hugs Rich

Hello John - Thank you for your lovely note. Our mom's were great friends to each other, supporting one another day in and out. I think that your use of the word "powerhouse" is very fitting. She put so much of herself into everything she did, whether it was taking care of her family or running a business, she did it with real energy and determination to do her best. Thank you again for remembering. Bob

Dear Rich, Bob, Tom, and families,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I have such wonderful memories of her! She always gave the babies their first pair of shoes and would greet you with her smile and laugh that lit up the room. I sti have some of the letters she'd write, in her flowing handwriting full of clipping fromrhis newspaper or that magazine with just the right story that reminded her of us. She used to tell me she was a woman born at the wrong time and was always so proud of her daughters-in-law and granddaughters for taking advantage of the things she couldn't. I don't think I need to say anything about her sons because you were always the light of her life! I'm sure your loss is deep, and the last year must have been extra rough. But as she was during life, she's a lively one and hopefully those cheerful memories will always stay in your mind. I know I'll remember her singing at parties with Rich playing his guitar - now she's hopefully reuniting with some of those we've lost before and I'm sure they're all having a grand time. Much love to all.

Lora, thanks so much for the kind words. She just loved sending letters with clippings in them. All of the girls in the family got them and I'm glad you have a few still floating around.
She was quite the feminist working for so many years! In her time she was not permitted to go to University, even though she won a scholarship to Rutgers. She always wished she could have had the advantages her children had.
In my mind mom is at a perpetual Pitman Christmas party with Pete, Bob and Dad

Richard, I send my condolences to you and your brothers. She certainly lived a very full life as a mother, wife and businesswoman. I remember times in Boynton Beach when she picked out Palm Tree for Marino to plant behind the Condo. Also, days up in Blairstown the Chicken Farm. She will be missed and I will pass te news on to my siblings.

Hi Jim! Great to hear from you and yes you remember Blairstown! That alone is just remarkable. I remember being afraid of the chickens. Mom had conflicting memories of Boynton Beach because dad was sick there. But I remember it well and loved it. 92 is amazing and she was in goood health almost to the end. I hope that's an Andreotta trait we all share!

Fond memories of hanging out as high school students at Casa Turin in Pines Lake munching on Milano cookies and chatting with Mr and Mrs. Turin and the Turrin Brothers. Learned some good life lessons along the way. Rich and I also enjoyed a fun and magical trip to Chesapeake Bay Virginia with his parents. The only lottery in life that matters is who you parents are, and I'd say you won.

Hello Mrs. Redfern - I remember John very well. Of course I saw him many times on various jobs, and we would chat. He was a great fellow! I have a vivid memory of you, John and your family coming to Bonds Ice Cream store when I worked there during high school. It was probably 1972. I waited on your table and made everyone ice cream deserts. After you left, I found a $20 dollar tip on the table and I was thrilled! I never forgot it because it was extremely generous.Thank you.

Mrs Redfearn its Rich I used to hang out with Joe Gortych all the time and see you and John. I have a wonderful picture of Joe, John and Me at one of the Gortych's family summer barbecues. (finding it is the problem) John built beautiful models and inspired me to build more. Your basement was full of airplanes and of course Christmas decorations! Much love Rich

I also remember John very well back in the 60's and his crew of masons (I knew most them). I used to tag along with Rich Proctor and help sweep out houses when I was in Jr. HS and HS. John always had a smile and was friendly compared to some of the other guys on the jobs.

To Tommy, Bobby, and Richie (sorry guys, you'll never be Thomas, Robert, and Richard to me!),
Well this is certainly the end of an era here in Pines Lake. I have spent my entire conscious life knowing Turrins here in the neighborhood and it is certainly sad to know that your Mom has now passed. I know that Mom gave it one heck of a ride and you all have fond memories of her to comfort you I'm sure----but it's never the same once they're gone. You guys, and your folks, will always inhabit a warm spot in my heart. My best wishes to you all. Tim Blixt

Hi Tim, I remember your mom also and when she was the crossing guard at Pines Lake School. You were Julie's big brother. Julie and I were in the same grade in school. Mom's passing has left a big void in the family. We do have many great memories, but as you said, it's never the same after they're gone. All the best, Tom Turrin
