You were a very dear friend and loving mother and grandmother. Although the miles separated us for so many years, I felt we were always connected. I will remember you as one of the most beautiful, kind, amd thoughtful women I have ever known. My memory of you will remain in my heart forever! I will miss you so. Love always, Linda

I met Ellen and Michele the same night in Belize. That was Januaryish 1989.
It seems perfect now that they were together. Ellen and Michele were in so many ways...one. I have never seen a closer relationship between a mother and daughter. They were truly best friends.
It also seems perfect because we were in a foriegn country. Ellen and Michele both had a passion for seeing the world. Adventure could have been Ellen's middle name. Over time, I realized I was more likely to meet either of them in a foriegn country than say New York or New Jersey!
Ellen welcomed me into her home for Easter a few months after the trip to Belize. that won't shock anyone who knew her either. Ellen was excellent at building and keeping relationships. She was a person who understood the value of people in her life. That was the first of many times Ellen welcomed me into her home.
It would be wrong not to mention food. Ellen was an amazing chef who truly enjoyed cooking. My mouth is starting to water now thinking of all of the yummy food she prepared. Ellen loved to entertain.
Ellen had the best sense of humor. This was true despite life's hardships, and let's face it, Ellen had more than her share. I just saw Bill Cosby speak last week and it occurs to me that Ellen's sense of humor was very much the same. Ellen could make a story about walking to her mailbox hilarious. Ellen saw the humor in everyday life.
Ellen was a strong Christian who lived her faith. She inspired me to live mine.
I loved Ellen. I always will.
My love and prayers to her family and other friends. May God comfort you each now and in the days, months and years ahead.
