Obituary of Stephen L. Hazuda

Stephen Louis Hazuda, 78, of Wayne passed away peacefully and entered into the Kingdom of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 6th 2019. He died from cardiac failure in the home of his daughter, Susan, surrounded by his family. Stephen L. Hazuda was born to immigrant parents from Czechoslovakia. He was born on a coal miners hill in Luzerne, Pennsylvania and later moved to Clifton. Stephen was a proud Eagle Scout and always shared cherished memories of his time as a Boy Scout. He attended and graduated from Pope Pius H.S. where he was not only a scholar student but also an accomplished baseball and football player. He then attended Seton Hall University and graduated with a degree in Education as well as a Master's Degree. After completing College, he worked as a History Teacher and later an Administrator at John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson for his entire career. He had many fond memories of his time as a teacher and the countless lives he touched. He and his wife, Patricia Lucille (Clarken) were married on August 16, 1962 and they moved to Wayne, to start a family. They were long-time residents of Wayne. He is survived by his two children Susan Sylvester, and Scott Hazuda and his wife Kimberly; five grandchildren Stephen Sylvester, Caroline Hazuda, Zack Sylvester, Reed Hazuda, also an Eagle Scout, Ryan Sylvester; and his brother, Joseph Hazuda. He loved to hear the stories of his grandchildren and what they were involved in. Mr. Hazuda was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Julia (Prokop) Hazuda; his loving wife, Patricia; along with three older siblings Jack Hazuda, Lee Hazuda, Marie Moskowitz and one younger sibling Paul Hazuda. Stephen Hazuda was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Wayne, He was a family man that always took the time to listen and encourage All family members in their endeavors. He was a proud supporter of his N.Y. Mets and N.Y. Giants. He loved to fish, hunt and be in the outdoors. Visiting hours will be Thursday, May, 9 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends are welcome to attend the funeral on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home and Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church, 630 Valley Rd, Wayne to celebrate Stephen's life. Entombment will follow at Laurel Grove Mausoleum, Totowa.
