Mr. Stephen Hazuda was our friendly next door neighbor. On the day that I was to be married, the limo, florist, photographer, and bridesmaids all descended on the front lawn at the same time. Mr. Hazuda's wife, Pat, saw me come out and started clapping, hooting, and hollering. In the background, Mr. Hazuda laughed at her antics with a twinkle in his eye. Mr. Hazuda often chuckled because of her; he was "Ricky" to her "Lucy". He loved her so much! Of course, Mrs. Hazuda would cheer for LOVE; she landed a great one in Mr. Hazuda. It was beautiful to see Mr. Hazuda's expression of marital love as I was heading toward my own wedding ceremony. I will never forget that moment. That was 22 years ago. He took care of his wife and family and was always thinking about ways in which he could do more. If heaven-points are earned by the level at which one takes care of ones family, Mr. Hazuda earned heaven a long time ago.....with points to spare. Rest in heavenly peace, Mr. Hazuda. May the perpetual light shine upon your soul.

To the Hazuda family I extend heartfelt condolences for your loss. The God of all comfort is close to the brokenhearted. and He has great compassion for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one (Psalms 34:18). May you find comfort in His grand promise to bring an end to death (Isaiah 25:8). It is my hope that these thoughts will help to ease your sorrow in the days ahead.

In1970 I entered Mr. Hazuda’s class at JFHS. He instilled a love of history into my life. In 1977, I entered Mr. Hazuda’s office as a newly hired history teacher at JFKHS. In1995, I took over Steve’s office as a newly hired administrator. I owe my career to Steve. Thank you for being a mentor. I will never forget your advice, sense of humor, and how you were so easy to talk with. RIP Steve.. you are now reunited with your beloved Pat.
