Obituary of Carole Ann Shapiro
Carole Ann (Mulrooney) Shapiro, 75, of Clifton passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016. She is the beloved wife of Woody Shapiro.
Carole Ann was a loving mother, to her son, Michael Murphy of Boonton, whom she taught well. She also leaves behind a granddaughter, Kaitlin.
Carole Ann had a long and stellar career in teaching. She taught in Pompton Lakes, and then came to the Oakland Public Schools where she taught in Dogwood Hill School, for over 30 years. She is remembered fondly by many students who speak of how she challenged them and gave them a love of learning. She was a kind, soft spoken, woman who loved teaching and it was evident to her students, their parents, and the Oakland staff.
After her retirement, she continued her love of education and learning.
She was the Senior Representative Liaison between the Oakland staff retirees and the Oakland Education Association for many years. She was always actively pursuing knowledge and took piano lessons as well as Spanish language lessons. She loved classical music, especially the piano. She and her husband, Woody, spent many enjoyable hours listening to jazz music at various venues in New York and New Jersey. She was an avid swimmer, swimming 5 days a week for many years. Photography and reading were also two of her hobbies. Carole Ann had a love of cooking and was always looking for new recipes. By all reports, she was an outstanding baker.
She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. She was a woman of character and strength throughout her life. She will be missed.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley RC Church, Valley Road, Wayne.
Interment to follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
