The first thought I had was "she's gone fishing!" that would be her heaven!! When I spoke with her daughter Joan Salak, (my friend for 55 years) she said, would you believe that I gave the funeral home pictures of my Mom fishing. To the entire family, our hearts and prayers go out to you in this time of loss. Every day of our lives we have so many memories we've shared. I am grateful to God and Elsie a.k.a. Ma Canning, for the kindest, loving and strong blessing of having Joan in our lives. Elsie, may you now and forever, fish in peace~ Bunny, Larry, Guy, Jason, Susan, Noah and Chad.

Aunt Elsie was a beautiful person, even if she did make me bait her hooks, chop worms in half and take off the fish she caught at Lake Waywayanda when I took her fishing a few years ago. With Aunt Dot she was always ready for an adventure, and she didn't lose that spirit in later years. We spent time together in Florida and Canada, not as much as I would have liked, but I'm so glad she was a part of my life. Marge Moltane Serven Dooley

It is with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of Elsie Canning. Her gentle manner, humor and strengths were consistently present at family gatherings.
