Obituary of Paul Edward Blumish

Paul Edward Blumish was born October 15, 1930 and entered into Eternal Peace on September 4, 2015 at the age of 84. Paul was the youngest and last of 8 children. His Brothers and Sisters called him “Baby Paul”. Paul was born in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania and resided in Wayne for 59 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church, Wayne, NJ. He was a USAF Korean War Veteran and was awarded the following Decorations/Medals and Commendations: · UN Service Medal · National Defense Service Medal · Korean Service Medal · Bronze Star Paul was stationed in Mineral Wells Texas in 1955 and was watching a Game Show called Welcome Travelers. His future Bride (Joan Beston) was appearing on the show. Joan saved an 11 year of Girl from drowning and had received several awards. Paul wrote a letter to her commending her on her heroic undertaking and asked if she would like to meet. After several months of writing to each other, they finally met in Morristown, NJ and started dating. They fell in love and were married at the Assumption Church in Morristown on September 1st 1956. Joan and Paul had just celebrated there 59 years of marriage. Paul was a Heat/Hot Water Service Technician for many years following as a Technical Product Representative for Wayne Home Equipment based out of Ft. Wayne Indiana until retirement. Paul was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Back in the 60’s prior to cable television, Paul purchased a motor for his antenna so he could half watch the Steeler games being played outside the metropolitan area. He also had a great love and passion for country music. He loved Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe, and Allison Krause to name a few. He would sit for hours listening to country music. Paul loved to cook. His specialties included Chili, Meat Loaf, Pumpkin and Apple Pie. He also had several “smokers” in his yard where he loved to smoke Kielbasa for the Holidays. Paul loved to work with his hands. His hobbies included Metal Detecting, welding, using his snow blower, collecting old lawn mowers and tinkering with them to get them running again. One of his favorite annual events was to drive out to Erie PA. to enjoy the "Blumish Fish Fry" with his Brother Tom and his Sister-In Law Shirley and all his Nieces and Nephews. Paul loved children. His greatest love and compassion was to sit with his (2) granddaughters, Chelsea and Caroline, where he would sit and play puppets with them. Paul possessed a down to earth personality and was loved by everyone. Even in his final days, the nurses and aides at Care One and the Veterans Nursing Home could not say enough about how wonderful he was to be around. He was the Beloved husband of Joan Margaret (nee Beston), father of beloved son: Christopher Paul of Highland Lakes, NJ and daughter: Paula Joan & son-in-law John Clarke of Wayne, NJ. He also leaves the loves of his life, his 2 granddaughters, Chelsea Marie & Caroline Grace both residing in Wayne, NJ. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10am at Our Lady of the Valley Church,630 Valley Road, Wayne NJ with interment to follow at Somerset Hills Cemetery, Basking Ridge, NJ. Visiting hours are Wednesday 3-5PM & 7-9 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Organization (www.alz.org) or The Glaucoma Research Foundation (www.glaucoma.org). · Paul Edward Blumish, age 84, died Friday, September 4, 2015 at The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood. Mr. Blumish was born October 15, 1930 in Carmichaels, PA the son of the late Nicholas and the late Anna (Rachel) Blumish. He lived in Wayne. He served in the US Air Force from 3/26/1952 to 3/25/1956. He was employed by Wayne Home Equipment, Fort Wayne, IN as a Tech Specialist before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 59 Years, Joan (Betson) Blumish, a daughter: Paula Clarke and a son: Christopher Blumish. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 3-5 & 7-9pm The funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10:00 am at Our Lady Of The Valley R.C. Church, 630 Valley Rd., Wayne. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
