Marjorie Geoghegan Ledwith

Every once in a while a person comes into the world who has extraordinary love to give to everyone in their lives. Those who are blessed to know them young and old feel deep love as a result.

Marjorie Geoghegan Ledwith, 88 of Belle Mead, NJ, formerly of Pompton Lakes, NJ passed away on February 15th.

Daughter of Thomas & Agnes (Dolan) Geoghegan and sister to John & Thomas, Marge spent her youngest years in her forever loved hometown of Baraboo, Wisconsin where she lived story like experiences with her brothers and friends. She attended both Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart – Madison and Baraboo High School from which she graduated.

Not one to stay a hometown girl forever, Marge attended St. Mary's College where she was an Art Major. After many tea dances she met a handsome young University of Notre Dame Senior, James Ledwith and a match was made.

Having earned a Scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago, she opted to journey east to begin a trail blazing career in Advertising. Working at Signal Magazine - she advanced becoming the Design Editor of this defense, intelligence & global security magazine and enjoying all that life in Washington, DC had to offer.

It was in Washington, DC that she and Jim Ledwith came together again as he arrived in the area for FBI Agent Training. From this time forward their extraordinarily dedicated life together began and continued for over 62 years of marriage.

In addition to her loving husband James, Marge is survived by her brother John of Baraboo, WI, who continued to be a source of laughter & love throughout her life, five children Mary, Katherine, John, Thomas and Therese and their spouses Stephen Benson, Lisa Glick, Helen Logan & Andrew Fay, six grandchildren – Eli & David Ledwith, Owen & Bridget Fay, Marjorie & Charlie Benson. Each of her 19 nieces and nephews from the Geoghegan & Staudt families gave her enormous pleasure & love in her life.

Marge and her husband Jim raised their large family in Pompton Lakes, NJ in a welcoming home environment of love, faith & fun. The back yard of their home was always filled with neighborhood kids who knew without question it was the Ledwith house where they would find the best adventures of the day and often times Mrs. Ledwith organizing them in mid-western children's games, plays and water fights day and night. Over her 60 years as a Pompton Lakes resident, Marge continued a freelance – home based Art Career with her small business company Edgewood Associates through which she provided advertising, art and design services to local businesses and service organizations and religious communities. As a member of the Roman Catholic Community St Mary's Pompton Lakes for over 55 years, Marge volunteered at St. Mary's School & Church and DePaul High School in Wayne. She re-entered the job market as her children grew older and took positions as Advertising Lay out Artist with Lakeland Cold Type and Advertising Art Associate with the JC Penny Corporation responsible for local and national advertising design and illustration.

Marge has many accomplishments but the one valued most was her ability to love so universally all who came into her life be it for a moment or a lifetime.

The family welcomes you to celebrate her life at the funeral Mass on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10 am at St. Mary's Church, 25 Pompton Ave, Pompton Lakes, NJ celebrated by Fr. Michael Carnevale.

Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
