Obituary of Dorothy Agnes Galle
Dorothy A. (Egan) Galle, 103, of Spring Lake Heights, Wayne, and Hackensack died Thursday, July 28, 2011.
Dot grew up in Bloomfield, graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1925, and was the first female to receive Athlete of the Year Award. She continued playing basketball while working for NJ Bell Telephone Co. and then Westinghouse Corp.
She married Anthony Galle in 1934 and moved to Hackensack where she cared for her family and was an active parishioner of Holy Trinity Church for 64 years. Dot was a member and officer of the Rosary Society, Mt. Carmel Guild, Trinity's Leisure Club, and the Bergen District of NCCW. For 20 years, she was an auxiliary member and gift shop volunteer at Holy Name Hospital.
In 2002, Dot moved to Wayne for 3 years and was active at Our Lady of Consolation Church and then moved to a Senior Residence in Spring Lake Heights and joined an old friend and bridge player from Hackensack. She loved children, traveling, the boardwalk, bingo, crocheting, and painting.
Dot was the beloved wife of the late Tony Galle ('73), loving mother of Evelyn Veehoff Schriver and her husband Charles of Ocean Township and Wayne, and Richard Galle and his wife Adele of Denville and Ocean City, and loving grandmother of four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visiting on Monday August 1, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the funeral home. The funeral Mass is on Tuesday August 2, 2011 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hackensack.
