Obituary of John Henry Doorn

John H. Doorn, 88, of Wayne, NJ died peacefully at home on September 28, 2010 while receiving the loving care of his children. He was born and raised in Paterson, NJ and resided in Wayne since 1980. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1942 and served at Guadalcanal and other South Pacific Islands during World War II. He graduated with the 41st class of the New Jersey State Police. He was appointed a County Detective in the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office in 1960 and retired as Deputy Chief of Detectives in 1983. He was a life member of Argonne Chapter #1 D.A.V. and P.B.A. Local 265. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane A. Smith (2008) and was predeceased by a son, John H. Doorn, Jr. and a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Doorn. He was the devoted father of daughters Jane D. Bradley and her husband William, Judith Doorn-Mury and her husband Gregory Mury, and Jo-Ellen M. Doorn and Cheryl Kaminski; sons James J. Doorn and his wife Roberta, and Jeffrey M. Doorn and his wife Cindy Browning; and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Doorn. He was the cherished Pop-Pop to James, Julianne, Allyson, Timothy, Skyler, Kaitlin and Colby. He is also survived by his brother Alfred R. Doorn of Sedro Woolley, WA and nieces and nephews. Visiting is on Thursday September 30, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home and Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church, 630 Valley Rd., Wayne. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Contributions in his memory may be made to The Children's Institute, 1 Sunset Avenue, Verona, NJ 07044-5188.
