Obituary of John Abram Van Houten
John A. Van Houten, age 89, of Andover passed away in NJ on May 21, 2010. Mr. Van Houten was born April 14, 1921 in Paterson, the son of the late Cornelius and the late Helen (Van Der Brink) Van Houten. John worked in National Rubber Machinery Co in Clifton for many years. He retired from Shulton Corp in Clifton. John was a WWII Navy veteran and belonged to Mt. View Lodge of Masons CT 154. He also loved being a Shriner at the Shrine Center in Lexington, NJ.
Mr. Van Houten is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian (Nicoles); his loving daughter Darlene Bauer of NJ; his dear brother Cornelius (Neil) and wife Lorraine of FL. John has three devoted grandchildren: Scott and his wife Margaret Bauer of FL, Keith and his wife Kim Bauer and Tara Bauer Williamson and her husband Jerry of NJ. He also leaves six cherished great-grandchildren: Samantha, Cierra, Cortnie Bauer of FL, and Trevor, Kristen & Tyler Bauer of NJ. John was preceded in death by his three sisters & a brother: Elsie Komas, Rose Wood, Cara Kyzer & Leonard Van Houten.
Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5-9 p.m.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will be celebrated by Dr. David Wiley.
