Obituary of Joseph James Smits

Joseph James Smits, age 84, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at home in Little Egg Harbor Township. Mr. Smits was born April 18, 1925 in Paterson, the son of the late John and the late Mary (McCormick) Smits. He moved to Little Egg Harbor about 12 years ago and formerly resided in Pompton Lakes for 28 Years. Mr. Smits served in the US Navy during World War II and he retired from Carpenter's Local #125 nineteen years ago. Mr. Smits was a former member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Pompton Lakes. He is survived by his beloved wife Irene (Griglak); his loving children Kenneth, James, Joseph James, Jr. David, Douglas, Jo Ann Cross, TerryAnn Bailey and Lori Moore; his 18 cherished grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 17 Pompton Ave, Pompton Lakes. Entombment will be in Laurel Grove Mausoleum, Totowa.
