Obituary of Walter E. Johnson
Walter E. Johnson, age 86, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Hospice of New Jersey, Wayne. Mr. Johnson was born December 12, 1921 in Totowa, NJ the son of the late Ernest and the late Wilhelmina (Shippers) Johnson. He lived in Wayne and was formerly of Totowa and Pompton Plains. He was employed by Robbins Engineers & Constructors in Totowa and was a Mechanical Designer and Applications Engineer in Bulk Materials Handling. He was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Board of Contributing and Consulting Editors of the first Materials Handling Handbook sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Material Handling Society.
He served on the Borough of Totowa Board of Education and the Borough Council. He also served as Tax Collector and in 1972 was the Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th Congressional District. He was a member of the Totowa United Methodist church, and a charter member of both the Totowa Police Athletic League and the Totowa historical Society. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of World War II and served in the 7th Air Force Sea Rescue Service for the development of the A-1 Airborne Life Boat. He was also an author of several childrens books.
He was the Loving father of two daughters: Joan Kopelman and Marilyn Stookey and three sons: Ernest, Richard and Clifford Johnson and devoted grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his Wife, Margaret (Coombs) in 1993.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 10 AM at Moore's Home for Funerals, 1591 Alps Road, Wayne and will be celebrated by Rev. Carletta Aston. Interment will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park. Visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers,
