Gil attended grammar school with me and we often "played" together as we said nack then. I lost track of him in later years and am saddened he left us too soon.

Gil was a highly intelligent thinker with a great concern for the environment and quality of life issues. I will greatly miss working with and communicating with such a kind, genuine and passionate individual. Gil's highly regarded attributes ensure his future role as one of God's angels.

I only knew Gil for a short period time when he visited and taught at Good Shepherd Mission. I found him to be very friendly and quite caring for those who were on the road to destruction because of their addiction. He never wanted anyone to take that way of life and tried to stir them onto the Christian road of knowing Christ and freedom. I will miss him and I pray his family will never forget his love for others. Yours In Christ Jim LaConte

To Susan and Jordan:
Susan, We are saddened by the passing of your Husband and certainly your Best Friend for Life; Jordan, your Father, and certainly your best buddy; and our heartfelt and sincere prayers, sympathies and condolences have been with you for strength, consolation and healing at this crossroad and at this hour. There are no perfect words or no means of defining the degree of our sadness, but we say to you, Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled, as we know full well that Gil has been chosen as the best person, in the eyes of Almighty God, to be the best person for the project of forging ahead and preparing a place for all of us who must, too, make the eternal journey. I would offer that I am truly pleased to have met and to have known Gil. It was a pleasure just exchanging greetings over the past decade, and especially to have had our long and truly special and infinitely enlightening conversation and discussion at your Mother's home, while enjoying the endless array of wonderful desserts. I truly believe that God made a way out of no way, as he does best in His own special way, to bring Gil and I together for a special encounter, and to empower a host of thoughts and ideas to be discussed and shared for the benefit of both our futures and in the best interests of those touched by us. On that day, and in the aftermath of that day, I realized that I was afforded a unique opportunity to become a better person after talking to Gil and hearing the special words he was empowered to bestow upon me. God sends us messages in ways that we may not realize or recognize immediately, and I can confirm full well that Gil's message to me was certainly from God, as He used Gil as his messenger and as a bringer of His Word. Now that Gil's earthly tasks are complete and his burden has been laid down, I say to you both, Susan and Jordan, Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled, for Gil has been called Home for a very special purpose. Our loving and everlasting God saw fit and made a way to allow Gil to live and walk among us, to share his life with us, to touch us in his own special way, but now his word and is deed is done. His task is complete, and his final journey from sunrise to sunset has been realized by everyone he has touched. The very best testament to Gil's life and his passing is that we shall see him again and he will welcome us into that prepared place inside the heavenly house complete with mansions. May God continue to Bless you, Susan and Jordan. Our prayers will always be with you.

Gracious God,
Surround us and all who mourn this day with your continuing compassion.
Do not let grief overwhelm your children, who need your strength at this hour.
When grief seems never-ending,
take them one step at a time
along your road from sunshine to the sunset of our eternal journey.
In Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Having only met Gil a few times, I do remember him as warm and generous. I remember that he and Sue gave everyone in choir at Hawthorne Gospel Church, a polo shirt with the HGC logo and 80th anniversary crest.
Gil had a warm smile and a warm heart.

I was a classmate of Gilbert at both Memorial School in Totowa and Passaic Valley. With our last names starting with SO and ST we were always sitting next to each other. He was a great guy. I had not seen Gil in about 25 years when approximately five years ago I ran into him at his store. It was great to see him again.
My sympathy to his wife and child and may he rest in peace.
