Obituary of John Michael Josephs, Sr.
John Michael Josephs, Sr., age 79, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Oakland Care Center, Oakland. Mr. Josephs, Sr. was born August 20, 1928 in Paterson, son of the late Michael and the late Katherine (Sabaitis) Josephs. He was a life long resident of Paterson.
Mr. Josephs, Sr. was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians R. C. Church, Paterson, and more recently Our Lady of Consolation RC Church, Wayne. He was a mess sergeant for the 50th Armored Division, Company A, US Army Reserves from 1952 to 1955. John, Sr. was a Lace Weaver at Van Raalte Co., Paterson for 20 years and also worked as a carpenter at Linwood Lumber Co., Paterson. After acquiring the Construction Official License in 1977, he worked as a home inspector for the city of Paterson. Beginning in 1982, while working as the Director of Building Inspections, Mr. Josephs taught the NJ Construction Code course at Bergen Community College. He was a Life Member & Past President of Bergen/ Passaic Municipal Inspector Assn. and former V.P. & Executive Board Member of Building Officials of NJ. In addition, Mr. Josephs was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #17 at St. Mary's, Paterson, a member of the Riverview Radio Control Flyers, NJ and a "SGA Pep Counselor" for Central HS Class of 1947.
Mr. Josephs was the loving father of Kathryn and her husband Michael Manza, John M., Jr. and his wife Barbara, Patricia and her husband Robert Moore, IV, James and his wife Judith, Lynn and her husband Diego Lezcano, and Michael and his wife Lisa; Devoted grandfather of Jenna and her husband Brian Sasso, Lea Opdencamp, Sandy Josephs, Raymond, Gina, and Amy Corbo, James, Michael F., Christine and Michael V. Josephs, Robert Moore,V. and Cristina and Daniel Lezcano; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Nicolette and Antonio; preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Regina D'Amelio, sisters, Mary Schoonyoung, and Marcella Holman and brother, Alexander Josephs.
Visiting hours will be Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 16 at Moores Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Road, Wayne and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke., Wayne celebrated by Fr. Michael D. Lombardo.
Interment will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
