Obituary of Nicholas Dominic De Spirito

Nicholas Dominic "Nick The Cake" De Spirito, Sr., age 87, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital, Wayne. Mr. De Spirito was born November 20, 1919 in Tuxedo Park, NY, the son of the late Joseph and the late Anna (Maietta) De Spirito. He lived in North Haledon and was formerly of Wayne. He was the owner/operator of Caruso Pastry Shop, Paterson. In 1965, he opened Cake Specialty also in Paterson, moving the business in 1996 to its current location in Hawthorne. Mr. De Spirito was a member of Our Lady of the Valley R. C. Church, Wayne,A past president of the Fidelians of America, North Haledon, charter member of the Italian Circle, Paterson, and a member of the Franklin Pleasure Club and the Lincoln Continental Owners Club. He is survived by one daughter: Pamela and her husband Vincent Amico of Wayne, three sons: Joseph And His Wife, Judy De Spirito of Ringwood, NJ, Nicholas De Spirito, Jr. of Wayne, NJ, Michael And His Wife Barbara De Spirito of North Haledon, one sister: Anne Arnowitz, 8 Grandchildren ; James, Jonathan, Jamie, Nancy Maria, Samantha, Michael, Jeffrey, Melanie and the late Joseph, III, great grandfather of Katelyn and Samantha. He was predeceased by his Wife, Nancy [Piccione], two sisters; Mary Matarzzo and Catherine Toddy Strauss,a brother Phil and daughter in law, Edith Maria De Spirito. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Anthony's RC Church, 276 Diamond Bridge Avenue, Hawthorne and will be Celebrated by Msgr. Mark Giordani. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
