Obituary of Thomas Houston Trutt

Thomas Trutt passed away at the age of 69 Sunday morning after a long illness, but he will be long remembered for more than winning the International Black Powder Muzzle - Loading Pistol Championship in Portland, Oregon in 1997 and bringing home the gold medal to the United States. He previously had won the Bronze medal in the International event in South Africa in 1995. He will be remembered for being one of the founding fathers of the Tri-County Motorcycle Club of Passaic, Morris and Sussex Counties. And he will be long remembered for being the founder and director of the Second Sunday Camera Show and the Second Saturday Record Show as well as a prize winning photographer. Thomas Trutt was a gentle giant of a man who touched the hearts of many from his wife Cheryl, four children --- Thomas Jr., of Hudson, Fla., Peter of Dingman's Ferry, Pa, Tricia Lyn of Bloomingdale and Stacy Marie of Cool Ca. --- to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as sister Marilyn and husband Ben Beneventine, sister-in-law Arlene and husband Ronald and sister-in-law Kathy Verner. There are countless more left today with what they believe is a near insurmountable loss. Born in NYC, first living in Greenwich Village in 1937, he moved to Dover in 1949 and then to Mine Hill.Taking Cheryl as his wife on June, 16, 1984, the couple first resided in Concord, Ca until 1987, moved to Wayne and then for the past 18 years in Bloomingdale where his legend grew as an advocate of intermingling with as many people as possible to help their lives in a positive way. After winning the New Jersey Junior Olympic Archery Championship in 1953, he went on to travel the world and award-winning photographs followed. In between, he was the founder and proprietor of Tom's Camera Shop in Dover.
