Obituary of Howard Von Suskil

Howard Von Suskil, Sr, 91, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Bon Secour Hospital in Port Jervis, New York. Mr. Von Suskil was born in Paterson, NJ January 25, 1916, the son of Ada May (Issac) and Paul Von Suskil, Sr. He resided in Bloomingdale, NJ for 36 years before moving to Westwind Hall at Franklin, NJ in 2001. Mr. Von Suskil was raised in Paterson, shortly after the age of silk mills in which his grandparents held a modest effort . During his early years, Mr. Von Suskil enjoyed boating off the Jersey Shore and flying in his brothers small plane. He spent a good deal of his life at the shores of Normandy Beach, New Jersey and was involved in the Improvement Projects there in the 1950s. During World War II, Mr. Von Suskil left the Newark College of Engineering and took a job at his fathers side working for Curtiss Wright, the maker of military airplanes and equipment. He would later become a Quality Control Inspector an important role during this time in our Nations history. He continued in this capacity until his retirement in the late 1980s. Not quite ready for full retirement, he found a part time job at Versa Products before his final retirement in 2000. He was a friendly and kindhearted gentleman who left a memorable impression with everyone he met. He enjoyed photography and won 3rd prize for a photograph of his son. He was a novice musician who studied the saxophone and in later life enjoyed playing familiar standards on the keyboards as well as recording music for his fellow residents at Westwind Hall . He is survived by his brother, Paul Von Suskil, Jr of North Carolina, a daughter June Smiraldi, of Vernon, N.J., a son, Howard Von Suskil, Jr and his wife Deborah of Hillsborough, NJ , six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Jane (Beglinger), and his second wife, Dorothy May (Templeton). Visitation will be Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Moores Funeral Home 1591 Alps Rd. Wayne,NJ from 2-5pm. Funeral services will be Monday, April 30, 2007 at 10:30am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
