Obituary of Elizabeth Helen McMahon

Elizabeth Helen ''Betty'' (Carty) McMahon, age 81, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Seabrook in Tinton Falls, NJ. Betty was born on February 17, 1931 and raised in the Bronx with four sisters and two brothers. She was the daughter of the late John and the late Mary (Sheridan) Carty. Growing up, Betty roller skated at every skating rink in New York and New Jersey, besides going to school and graduating from Walton High School in the Bronx, where her favorite subject was history. After school, she worked in Banking. She met her husband Joe, McMahon, during a party at the Knights of Columbus. He attended St. Peter's College. Joe was the Best Man at her sister Ann's wedding. Betty and Joe dated for a while and one day Betty looked at Joe and said " A penny for your thoughts?" to which Joe replied, " Will you marry me?" And with that - Betty Carty became Betty McMahon. She lived in Wayne for over 40 years before moving to Tinton Falls. Mrs. McMahon was a homemaker and a proud and devoted grandmother. Most of all, Betty enjoyed vacationing with her family for the past 40 years in Lavallette. Mrs. McMahon was a founding member of Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church. She was predeceased by her Husband, Joseph Edward McMahon (d.2008). She is survived by her two daughters: Elizabeth and her husband John Itzie, Theresa and her husband Danny Blue and four sons: Kenneth and his wife Cathy, Vincent and his wife Lynne, Gerry and his wife Suzanne and Frank. Also her sister Ann Flynn and six grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Nicholas, Timothy, Kelli, Christina and Ryan. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. The funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke., Wayne and will be celebrated by Fr. Michael D. Lombardo. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. Memorials donations may be made to Care Plus Foundation, 610 Valley Health Plaza, Paramus, NJ 07652
