Obituary of Elizabeth W. Sampson

Elizabeth (Wellington) Sampson, age 100, died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Hospice Of New Jersey, Wayne. Mrs. Sampson was born December 6, 1904 in Conversville Rindge, NH the daughter of the late Edwin Iners and the late Emma Wellington, She lived in Wayne and was formerly of Savannah, GA. She attended Rindge School # 6 before graduating from Leominster (MA) School in 1922. She received a BA from Emerson College in 1926. At Emerson, she was the recipient of the Isaac Hooper Eldridge Award and an active member of Kappa Gamma Sorority. She earned a MA in Education from Boston University. She taught English and Speech at Arlington, Leominster and Sharon (MA) high schools for over 20 years and was the faculty advisor for the Drama club, which won many awards in high school competitions. She was also a Regent and active member of the Arlington chapter of the D.A.R. Following retirement, she and her husband, John S. Sampson, moved to Rindge, NH, where she was Librarian for the Ingals Memorial Library and Regent of the Mary Varnum Platts Chapter of the D.A.R. She directed and produced an outdoor pageant celebrating the bicentennial founding of the town of Rindge. She and her husband spent many summers in Rindge and winters in Tybee Island and Savannah, GA where she continued her support of the D.A.R. and was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists. Upon her husbands death in December 2004, she relocated to Wayne, NJ. She is survived by two sons: John C. Sampson and his wife Patricia of Wayne, NJ, Charles S. Sampson and his wife Daphne of Alexandria, VA , 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. All services were private at the request of the family.
