Obituary of William C. Gates
William C. Gates, age 77, of Wayne died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown.
Mr. Gates was born July 8, 1925 in Paterson, NJ the son of the late Clarence and the late Margaret (Irwin) Gates. Mr. Gates was the President of Gates Flag & Banner Company in Clifton. He attended William Paterson College, Majoring in Business, before leaving to join the family business.
He served in the US Navy in World War II in the South Pacific and is a member of ther Navy League. He was a member of the VFW Post # 1931 and the American Legion Post # 1000, Trenton. Bill was deeply involved with the St Josephs Wayne Hospital, serving on the Board of Trustees for both the Hospital and the Foundation. He is a member of the Greater Paterson Chamber of Commerce; the Northern Regional Chamber of Commerce serving on the Board of Directors. He was an area coordinator for the Polioplus Campagian, Past President of the Paterson Rotary Club, Governors representative, Chief Governors Representative for 3 terms and District Governor of District 7490 of Rotary International, Receipent of the Paul Harris Fellow and the Dr. Walter Head . He is on the Board of Action Theater Conservatory; a member of the Hawthorne Elks, the Paterson Rotary, the Genesis Masonic Lodge, a member of the Upper Montclair and Hobe Sound Country Clubs and a former member of Boy Scout Troop 20 in Paterson. He was also a member of the Lakeland Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory and the Salaam Temple. Livingston.
He is survived by his wife the former Joyce Latham, two daughters: Lisa and her husband Mark McCormick of Oak Ridge, and Lili Rembisz of Clifton. Grandchildren: Rachael And Annie Lewus, Doreen and her husband James Sellitti and great-great grandchildren, Sarah And Jessica Sellitti
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Moore's Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Rd., Wayne, NJ. The funeral will be Monday at 10:30 at Moore's Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Rd., Wayne.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson.
