Obituary of Grace Findlay

Grace (Hilson) Findlay, age 80, died Thursday, November 14, 2002 at Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, NY, with her daughter at her side. Mrs. Findlay was born May 6, 1922 in Perth, Scotland, the daughter of the late James and the late Grace (Millar) Hilson. She was a resident of Old Forge, NY since 1998. Before moving there she resided in Wayne, NJ for almost 40 years. After completing high school, she enlisted in the British Army A.T.S. and served during World War II. On March 23, 1943 she married Scott Findlay and emigrated to the United States of America in 1951 and settled in Paterson. She was a former officer and member of the Caledonian Club and Daughters of Scotia, In Paterson. Grace had a love of reading, sewing and needlework. Her sewing work allowed her many years of dedicated employment at the Rag Shop and Cloth World in Wayne. Her love and expertise reflected in the wedding Gowns she created for her daughter and daughter-in-law. Grace was a former member of the Eastside Presbyterian Church, Paterson and the Wayne Presbyterian Church, and most recently attended Nicholls Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge, NY. Her strong belief in God led her through a Christian Life, which projected in every aspect of her being. To all that knew her they will remember her warm, friendly, humorous and out going manor and she will never be forgotten. Mr. Findlay predeceased her on July 6, 1985. She is survived by one daughter: Grace Mendrick of Old Forge, NY, and a son Scott and his wife Violet of Oceanside, CA. grandchildren, Dana Cudhea of Old Forge, NY; granddaughter, Lana Findlay of San Diego, CA; grandson, Henry (Jamie) Keeck of Old Forge, NY; granddaughter, Michele Culverhouse of Oceanside, CA; great grandchildren, Jordyn,Madison, And Anthony Cudhea; sister-in-law, Margaret Stonaker of Brick, NJ; sister-in-law, Janet Hilson of Union, NJ; brother-in-law, Menzies McDougall of LasVegas, NV Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Moore's Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Rd., Wayne, NJ. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 at Moore's Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Rd., Wayne with Rev. James Brassard officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa .
