Obituary of John L. Lombardo
Lombardo, John L. (Catfish), age 79, returned to the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at the Hospice of NJ, after waging a courageous battle with cancer. Formerly of Lodi he resided in Elmwood Park and Wayne ( Pines Lake) before moving to Pompton Plains in 1971. He was a residential home builder for 32 years retiring in 1985. A Navy Veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1946; he fought in the invasion of Sicily and Salerno. In 1944, he received a commendation for bravery as a member of the armed Guard Unit aboard the SS William Dean Howells, during action against enemy aircraft in Salerno, Italy September 11-17, 1943. He also fought in the invasion of Okinawa April 1945, to the end of the war.
He was a member of the BPO Elks # 1895, Pompton Lakes and from 1970 to 1973 he owned and operated the Choo Choo Club in Garfield. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Grace (Jackson) in 1999. Survivors include: his daughter Mary Ellen Willever and her husband Richard, a granddaughter Dawn Ellen And Her Husband Robert Crescitelli, his sister: Rose Ferraro a niece Susan and her husband Hugh Syme, his nephews: John Ferraro, Jr. and Anthony And His Wife Cecile Grassano.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the funeral Service on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at 3:45 PM at Moore's Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Rd. Wayne, NJ Visiting on Saturday from 1-4PM.
