Obituary of Carmine Modestino DeVito
Carmine Modestino DeVito, age 75, of Wayne died Friday, August 23, 2002 at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital in Wayne, NJ. Mr. DeVito was born November 12, 1926 in Paterson, NJ the son of the late Carmine M. and the late Frances (DArgenio) DeVito. He lived in Paterson until moving to Wayne in 1973. He is married to the former Elizabeth (Betty) Lacava.
He served in the Army from 1948 to 1952 during Korean Conflict at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. During that time, he worked with the world famous scientist Dr. Werner VonBraun.
He had retired from US Post Office in Paterson, NJ in 1986 after 23 years as a letter carrier. He will always be rembered as more than just a mailman, but as a friend to the many neighbors along his route. Mr. DeVito was a member of Our Lady Of Consolation R.C. Church in wayne, NJ and had been a former parishoner at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Paterson, NJ and a member of their Holy Name Society.
In addition to his wife Betty, Carmine is survived by one daughter: Fran and her husband Jack Belanger of Kinnelon, NJ, two sons: Carmine of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Michael and his wife Gail of Wyckoff, NJ, three sisters: Josephine Dittamo of North Haledon, NJ, Virginia Dittamo of North Haledon, NJ, Anna Vancheri of North Haledon, NJ, and his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Nicole, John And Kyle.
Calling hours will be Monday August 26 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Moore's Home For Funerals, 1591 Alps Rd., Wayne, NJ. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 at Our Lady Of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpk., Wayne where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Fr. Michael Lombardo. Entombment will be in the Laurel Grove Cemeterys Mausoleum in Totowa, NJ following the mass
