Obituary of Joseph H. Koning, Jr.

Joseph H. Koning,Jr. age 63, died suddenly Saturday, January 15, 2022 at home in Pompton Lakes. Mr. Koning was born October 10, 1958 in Paterson, NJ the son of the late Joseph Henry and the late Elizabeth Mary Bess (Vreeland) Koning. After graduating from Passaic County Tech, he enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharge in 1981. Joe was previously married and has two sons, Joey and David. Unfortunately, that marriage didn't last, but fortunately, for his second wife Dawn, things were different, and they've been together for over 30 years. Joe was always a hard worker and was a handyman who owned his own business at one time, but found a job he loved with American Woodworking making and installing signs and then moved on to RAB Lighting where he did general maintenance. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, wood carving, building his own boat, fishing and doing odd jobs for friends and family. In the winter he would work on his trains and the village he made comprised of buildings modelled after those in his new town of Pompton Lakes. The only time he sat still was when he was reading a book or watching Jeopardy. He thrived on helping others whether it was a small handyman job or something bigger. He is survived by his wife: Dawn Sobchock- Koning, his fur babies, Bear and Peanut, his sister: Mary Beth Meyer and brother: Arthur and his wife Nancy, brother in law Bill Skillen, nephews: Paul Meyer and Gregory Horskey and his wife Debbie, nieces Beth Meyer Philpot and husband Derek and Kim Albensi and husband JW, Ryan,Chelsea,Julia, and Dennis Bloom,8 great nieces and nephews and his aforementioned sons; Joey and David. He was also predeceased by his sister Patricia Skillen. Visiting hours will be Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 4-8 PM. The prayer service will be Thursday at 7:30 pm will be celebrated by Fr. Michael D. Lombardo. Private Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to ASPCA , PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929, www.aspca.org or any Animal Shelter and would be greatly appreciated
