Obituary of Beverly Howanitz

Beverly Anne (Leeks) Howanitz passed away on April 19, 2021. She was 90. Born in Passaic, NJ to the late Robert and the late Anne (Guidice) Leeks. She resided in Wayne and was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Howanitz. Beverly was married to Joseph for 67 years; affectionately called "Bev" by all that knew her. After graduating Clifton High School, she worked as a courier for the bank in NYC. She loved to travel among the streets of Manhattan. After getting married, her passion was to take care of her children. Bev and her husband were founding members of Our Lady of Consolation RC Church in Wayne. To know Bev was to love her. She had the gift of gab that would always leave you with a smile on your face. She would be the first one to compliment you and ask you "how are you doing". If you were having a bad day, Bev knew how to make you feel better. She was a terrific cook of both Italian and Polish food. Her lasagna was top notch and was the perfect complement to Joe's whiskey sours. Bev is survived by her loving daughters Amy Lorimer, and Elizabeth Sorrentino and her husband Michael Sorrentino; her cherished grandchildren Joey and Jessica Lorimer, and Emily Sorrentino; her dear brother Robert Leeks; along with many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph loving daughters, Susan and Lori Howanitz. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 22 at Our Lady of Consolation RC Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne. (Please meet at church.) Burial will follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org
