Obituary of Joan Heres

Joan Kane Heres, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 two days after her 91st birthday. Joan was born in Paterson to Harold and Amelia Lagrosa Kane. After graduating from Eastside High School, she attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. During her youth, she spent many summers in Spring Lake which fostered a lifelong love of the beach. Joan was predeceased by her husband Herman (Dutch) Heres who died in 1999. The couple raised their children in Wayne and Joan was active in her children's activities, loved to entertain, and took pleasure in setting a beautiful table. In addition, she was a co-owner/operator of the Fairlawn Transportation Company, a bus business in Paterson which was founded by her father in 1921. After her children were grown, she spent winters in Lake Worth, Florida. Later in life, Joan moved to Canal Walk in Somerset and enjoyed making many new friends, playing cards, Broadway theater, and travel to Italy. Joan is survived by her devoted daughter Nancy Heres of Bedminster, her son Edward (Sarah) Heres of Sewickley, PA , and her precious grandchildren Christopher, Caroline and Peter. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Margaret) Kane of Fairlawn and his family. A private service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
