I called to wish my Aunt Darth & Uncle Al a happy Thanksgiving this afternoon and learned that my Uncle passed away a month ago.
Since I wasn’t able to attend his funeral, I am dedicating a song to him. “Without You” from the musical Rent.
Both he and my Aunt introduced me to musical theater as a child, when they invited me to the high school musicals they choreographed & directed. (They were both teachers) They brought me to my first broadway show in NYC, “Grand Hotel” (and Jane Krakowski was in it at that time)
Since then, we saw many shows together including the last ever NYC performance of Les Mis and my favorite, Rent, in 1999...Thee first show that ever brought me to tears. It had a huge impact on my life.
“Darth -n- Al” as they were known (as if they were one, which I think they were because they finished eachothers’ sentences at every well rehearsed dinner party they threw lol) would always prepare me for the show, explaining the plot....even printing it out and telling me to read it beforehand. They taught me how to navigate the bus to NYC from NJ and how to navigate the city...(avenues run north & south and streets run east and west) I remember them telling me, “In Manhattan, if you get lost, you can never go a block out of your way”
There’s so much more I can say but I’d be writing for days....
I’ll miss you Uncle Al, the things you taught me, the courage you displayed in some of the most tragic times in our family....the family get togethers you organized and even the traditional annual slide show that added on pictures every year as our family grew and changed throughout the years.
“Without You” our lives will continue but they will never be the same. ❤️ Love, Paul

I met Al Piaget in 1962 when I was hired to teach in Anthony Wayne JR. High as a history and French teacher for 9th grade. He was a super intellect and truly dedicated teacher and a role model for his students who adored him. You could not want for a better colleague. He was always willing to answer your questions and to give you materials to help you with your teaching. He was a caring and concerned person as well as a leader. Al was a born teacher.
I offer my sincere condolences to Darth and his family.
May he Rest In Peace.
