Obituary of Barbara F. (Scerbo) DeSantis

Barbara Frances DeSantis (née Scerbo) of Manchester, NJ (formerly of Ridgefield Park, NJ) passed away on September 5th, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born to Saverio and Giuseppina Scerbo (née Donato) in Boonton, NJ on July 18, 1930. She joins her husband, Raphael, and her parents and two brothers, Joseph, and Anthony, in Eternal Glory. She’s survived by her five beloved children: Barbara (Carlos), Michele, David (Amy), Lisa (Greg), and Gary (Joann); her ten cherished grandchildren: Julianna, Alyssa, LeAnna, Lexi, Michael, Kayla, Gigi, Anthony, Nikolas, and Evangelina; her siblings-in-law Marie, and John (Alice); and many nieces, nephews, grand-pets, great-grand-pets, and friends. The writer Isabel Allende said when writing an obituary to “write what should not be forgotten.” It’s difficult to encapsulate Barbara’s 90 years of unconditional love. Barbara was the heart of her family, warming everyone she touched with home-cooked meals (especially her pasta sauce, meatballs, bread, and apple pie), handmade slippers, laughter, and many, many hugs. Barbara was a kind, gentle, and generous spirit. She was a safe haven for those who needed love, a sounding board to those seeking wisdom, an active and faithful member of the Church, and a Friend to all who crossed her path. Her body may have been too tired to carry on, but her loving heart and shining light live on in her children, grandchildren, and all of the lives she touched along the way. The Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Our Lady of Consolation Church (1799 Hamburg Turnpike Wayne, NJ 07470) on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 11 AM with Reverend Michael D. Lombardo, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Madonna Cemetery, in Fort Lee, NJ.
