Obituary of Blanca Iris López

Blanca Iris López, age 93, passed away on Monday July 13, 2020 at the Morris View Healthcare Center in Morristown, NJ. She was born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico to Ana María Rivera and Agapito Miranda, and she was raised in Santurce, San Juan, PR. Blanca was predeceased by her youngest child Agapito Manuel López who died in 1993. She is survived by her children: Elsie Malicki, Wilfredo López, and Antonio López; by her grandchildren: Wilfredo (Tito), Desiree Arroyo, Diego, Manuel, Veronica, Sofia, and Sabrina; and by her great-grandchildren: Emma Catalina and Wilfredo (Nilo). Blanca Iris moved to New York City in 1947 to help her sister Ana Cristina (Tinín), and it was in New York City that she met and married Wilfredo López-Asencio. Later, she worked as a seamstress before opening her own dress shop in Manhattan. She was well known for her colorful crochet and knitting. Blanca Iris was always a fun person, loving Latin music and dance, cooking, and playing dominoes. She was fearless in stopping any abusive behavior that she witnessed. She had an unbreakable bond of love for her children, no matter the intensity of any argument or difference of opinion; and she was one tough small woman. We will all miss her laughter and affection but can console ourselves in knowing that we were blessed to have her as a mother/grandmother/great-grandmother. Visiting hours will be Sunday July 19, 2020 from 1-5 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Monday July 20, 2020 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne will be celebrated by Father Michael Lombardo and assisted by Deacon Wilson Martinez. Interment will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. As an option to sending flowers, donations may be sent to World Central Kitchen at https://donate.wck.org, a non-profit organization that provides emergency meals in response to disasters worldwide. World Central Kitchen distributed millions of meals in Puerto Rico immediately after Hurricane María hit the island. Hija de Ana María Rivera y Agapito Miranda, nació en Orocovis, Puerto Rico y se crió en Santurce, San Juan, PR. Su hijo menor, Agapito Manuel López, murió en el 1993. La sobreviven sus hijos: Elsie Malicki, Wilfredo López, y Antonio López; sus nietos: Wilfredo (Tito), Desiree Arroyo, Diego, Manuel, Verónica, Sofía, y Sabrina; y sus bisnietos: Emma Catalina y Wilfredo (Nilo). Blanca Iris se mudó para la ciudad de Nueva York en el 1947 para ayudar a su hermana Ana Cristina (Tinín) y fue en la ciudad de Nueva York donde se casó con Wilfredo López-Asencio. Luego trabajó como costurera, y más luego abrió una tienda de ropa en Manhattan. Fue muy conocida por su mano de obra fina en tejidos. Blanca Iris siempre fue cariñosa y divertida, y le encantaba la música y el baile, cocinar, y jugar dominó. Siempre fue valiente en poner fin a cualquier abuso que presenciara, sin darle mente a que le podía costar. Tenía una conexión invencible de amor para sus hijos que ninguna pelea o argumento podría romper. Y era una mujercita bravísima. Nos hará falta su risa y su cariño, pero nos consolaremos en saber que fuimos bendecidos por tenerla como madre/abuela/bisabuela. El horario de visita será el domingo 19 de julio de 1 a 5 p. m. La misa fúnebre será el lunes 20 de julio a las 9:00 a.m. en la iglesia Our Lady of Consolation, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne y será celebrado por el padre Michael Lombardo y asistido por el diácono Wilson Martínez. El sepelio será en el cementerio Laurel Grove, Totowa. World Central Kitchen distribuyó millones de comidas en Puerto Rico inmediatamente después que el huracán María pegó a la isla. Blanca Iris fue tremenda cocinera y expresaba su cariño alimentando a otros.
