Obituary of Robert J. Salmanowitz
Robert Salmanowitz, age 77, died Saturday, June 21, 2014. Mr. Salmanowitz was born April 9, 1937 in Paterson, the son of the late Nathan and the late Beatrice (Graf) Salmanowitz. He lived Pompton Lakes for 36 years and was formerly of Paterson. Mr. Salmanowitz served with pride and honor in the US Navy on the USS Intrepid from 1956 to 1958. He was a ship's photographer on the "Mighty I". Truly an Intrepid man, he was a member of the Former Crew Member's Association and he served, with the same pride and dedication, as a past Treasurer and Secretary. Mr. Salmanowitz retired in 1986 from the City of Paterson, where he was a dedicated fire fighter for 25 years.
Mr. Salmanowitz was the beloved husband of 53 years Jane (Vreeland) Salmanowitz; loving father of Robert, Jr. and the late Jane Kent; Dear brother of Jacqueline Mangini and James Salmanowitz; and caring uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Donald, Nathan, Ira and Arthur Salmanowitz and his sister, Claire Carroll.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be celebrated by Fr. ST Sutton.
A private cremation will follow.
