Obituary of Anthony V. Raffaelli, MD

Dr. Anthony V. ''Tony'' Raffaelli, age 73, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Dr. Raffaelli was born in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Vincent and the late Anna (Punturieri) Raffaelli. He lived in Wayne and was formerly of Brooklyn, Maplewood and Nutley. Dr. Raffaelli was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation RC Church. He was a 1974 graduate of Autonomous University of Guadalajara and spoke Spanish and Italian as second languages. He received a board certification from Diplomate American Board of Family Practice in 1986. Dr. Raffaelli was an Instructor and Director of Family Practice & the Family Practice Residency Program at St Mary Hospital, Hoboken and the attending Physician and Interim Director of Emergency Medicine at Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center. He also had private practice offices in Hoboken, Rutherford, Nutley, and later Secaucus. Dr. Raffaelli was the Rutherford HS Football Team Doctor in the 1980's. He cared for his patients above all. He would always take time to hear about their lives, not just their ailments. He was a compassionate man. When not at the hospital, he enjoyed travel, dining, world experiences and Disney. Tony was light-hearted and enjoyed taking home movies. He was a storyteller and sometimes a comedian. He was resourceful and would always stop to lend a hand if he saw someone in need. Dr. Raffaelli is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Catherine (Egan) Raffaelli; two sons, Daniel and Anthony, Jr and his wife Dorothy; two daughters, Kristin and Jennifer; his sister Alba and her husband Peter Gerbasi; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 4-8 pm. The funeral will begin on Thursday at 9:00 am at the funeral home followed by Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne, celebrated by Fr. Michael D. Lombardo. Interment will be in Christ The King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, please pay it forward with donations to a company that transports patients to dialysis: ANY WAY Medical Transport, PO Box 8055, Haledon, NJ 07538-0055, who was always there when Tony and Cathy needed them.
