Obituary of Mary DeVito

Mary DeVito, 87, of Ringwood, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2017 after a long illness.

Mary was born on October 28, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Philomena and Lorenzo Bua.

Mary resided in Brooklyn after she married Thomas DeVito where they raised their three daughters. Mary worked side-by-side with her husband in their family business, a luncheonette/candy store until 1975 and then moved to Ringwood, NJ. In 1977, Mary and her husband were the owners of the Oakland Hallmark Card and Gift Shop. Mary was a well-loved business woman because she had a joyful spirit that helped brighten her customer's day. She and her husband also owned the Cupsaw Market and while her husband ran this business, Mary was running the card shop. After she retired in early 1980, she spent most of her time outdoors's gardening, listening to music, cooking, and spending time with her family. Family was the focus of Mary's life.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Tom, of over 66 years; her loving daughters, Louise Loweth and her husband Arthur, Donna Cerrato and Richard Hulit, Joanne Kearns and her husband John; her devoted niece, Vivian Sagar (who was raised by Mary's mother and is like a younger sister to her) and her husband Charlie; her five cherished grandchildren, Janine Loweth and Joseph Vigil, Thomas and his wife Crystal Loweth, Amanda Cerrato, Danielle Cerrato, and Ryan Kearns; her three cherished great-grandchildren, Samarah Vigil, Thomas Loweth, and Bella Loweth; and her dear sister-in-law Marie DeVito, who always gave from the heart with compassion and endless love and is the family's guardian angel.

Mary was predeceased by her parents Philomena and Lorenzo Bua; her sisters, Margaret, Frances, Vita, and her brother, Anthony; her sister-in-law Louise DeVito; and her son-in-Law, Vincent Cerrato.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a service at 12:30 p.m. with Fr. Marc Mancini officiating.

The entombment will follow at Mary Rest Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 770 Darlington Avenue, in Mahwah. A committal service will be held at the Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Associations or the charity of your choice.
