Obituary of Lois Conklin

Lois Beresford Conklin age 87, died, August 8, 2017. Mrs. Conklin was born April 25, 1930 in Paterson New Jersey, the daughter of the late Roland and Edna (Butterworth) Beresford. She was married to the late Dolson G. Conklin until his death in 2012. She lived in Wayne until 2012 when she went to live at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, NJ. Mrs. Conklin was reared in Paterson, she was a member of Westside Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She attended schools in Paterson and graduated from Central High School in 1948. She then went on the Business school then started her career at Curtiss Wright Corporation until her children arrived. Mrs. Conklin married Dolson G. Conklin, of Teaneck, on February 23, 1957. They had two children, Jeff Conklin, Leslie and her husband Luther Van Pelt. She was a grandmother to Jennifer, Alyssa, and Michael Van Pelt. They were the joy of her life. She spent every day with her grandchildren after school, going to see all of their activities. Lois had one brother the late Roland Beresford and his wife Jean, as well as nieces Carolyn Beck and Lynne Rutkoski and a nephew the late William Beresford. Lois and Dolson loved to travel; they toured all the capitals in Europe, plus all the islands in the Caribbean and major cities of Canada. They also visited 39 of the 50 states in the USA, her favorite trip was the one to Alaska, and this location was special since she got to see where Dolson served in the Army. She spent her summers in Lavallette from the early 1960's until her grandchildren arrived. Mrs. Conklin's hobby was crocheting blankets she would make one for anyone that needed blanket. She made them for her friends children's when they went away to college as well as donating them to organizations for tricky trays and to raffles for charities. Cremation was private. A Memorial service will be held for Lois and Dolson (8/30/2012) on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 2:30PM at The United Methodist Church of Wayne, 99 Parish Drive Wayne, NJ. In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in the name of Lois and Dolson Conklin be made to the Joseph Alvino Memorial Foundation, Wayne PBA Local 136, PO Box 3597 Wayne, N.J. 07470.
