Obituary of Janet Hong

Janet (Whitwell) Hong, age 94, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Atrium at Wayne. Janet was born May 12, 1923 in Troy, NY the daughter of the late Roy and the late Adelaide (Goodrich) Whitwell. She lived in Oakland and was an executive secretary employed by American Cyanamid in Wayne. Janet also worked part-time as the Welfare Director for the borough of Oakland. In 1960, she became a founding member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Oakland. Janet was a member of the Oakland Senior Citizens and also a founding member of the PWP, Oakland Chapter. Janet is survived by her loving children: Peter E. Hong, Paul C. and his wife Diana Hong and Pamela J. and Paul Helleren; her devoted grandchildren Rocco Hong, Erica Hong, Courtney and her husband Jacob Ausfahl, Bryan and his wife Gema Hong, Erik C. Helleren; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Hong. She is predeceased by her late companion of 37 years, Anthony DiSalvo. All are welcome to attend the funeral service on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 1 Church Lane, Oakland which will be celebrated by Rev. Kathryn King. Interment will follow at Ponds Reformed Church Cemetery, Oakland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Janet Hong Memorial Fund at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 1 Church Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436
