Dear Susan, Billy, David and Steven,
Paul and I are so heartbroken about Uncle John. He was a very kind, compassionate, gentle, funny man and one of great integrity. I remember him that way when I was a little girl and he never changed.
Betty and I remember when we were little and my mom was very ill, he came to our house and washed her kitchen floor. We remember when he was missing in action and the family was so sad and upset; and then when Mama Reed received word that he was taken prisoner of the Germans, everyone was happy to know that he was still alive.
I asked him many questions about the Reed/Dunn/Cole family histories, and he always answered all my questions. I have been composing a letter now for about 4 weeks asking him to confirm some more family history questions I have. Unfortunately, it took me too long and I never finished it.
The last time I spoke to him (about a year ago), I told him that I never had anything new to say and that was why I didn't call him. He was no charming and interesting and before I knew it, we were on the phone for over 2 hours. He told me things I never knew about Papa Reed and my Mom before she married. You can imagine how wonderful and fascinating it was for me hear.
I know everyone welcomed him with loving arms. He must be very happy to be with his beloved wife, Aunt Ruth, his son John, Papa and Mama Reed and all his brothers and sisters.
We love you, Uncle John. Rest peacefully,
Ann and Paul
