Obituary of Richard Vernotica

Richard Vernotica, age 85, died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital. Mr. Vernotica was born August 15, 1931 in Newark, the son of the late Michael and the late Mary (Lamorte) Vernotica. Dick lived in Haledon and Oakland before moving to Wayne in September 2016. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Dick was employed by Western Electric, Fair Lawn and then was the owner of Century 21 Realty, Oakland before becoming a Mortgage Loan Officer for Coldwell Banker in Wyckoff. He was a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church. In Oakland, he was also a Special Police Officer, a member of the Rotary Club and a volunteer for the Oakland Recreation Commission. He is survived by his beloved wife Linda (Boyd) Vernotica; two loving daughters: Vicki and her husband J. Stuart Schultz and Judy and her husband Peter Ruel; dear stepsons: Donald Lombardo, Marc and his wife Pamela Lombardo, Dave and his wife Johnna Lombardo; and his cherished grandchildren: Joshua and his wife Allison Schultz, Jake Schultz and his fiancé Kimberly Russo, Luke Schultz, Tucker, Casey and Samuel Ruel, Amelia, Charlie, Nate, Carly and Kathleen Lombardo and also many nephews. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 3, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friends are welcome to attend the funeral on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home celebrated by Fr. Michael D. Lombardo. Interment will follow in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. Memorial donations in Mr. Vernotica's name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or to the Oakland Recreation Commission, 1 Municipal Plaza, Oakland, NJ 07436.
