Obituary of Donald Frank Martin

Donald Frank Martin, age 93, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Chilton Medical Center, Pequannock Twsp. Mr. Martin was born November 10, 1923 in Monroe, NY the son of the late John and the late Louise (Conklin) Martin. He was raised in Clifton and lived in Paterson before moving to Wayne in 1972. Mr. Martin owned Rosedale Mobil at the corner of Broadway and Rosedale Ave. in Elmwood Park from 1967-1987 and previously owned South Paterson Chevron and Limousine. After his retirement, he operated a flea market business where he had continued to work in recent years. Mr. Martin served in the US Navy as a torpedo man on the destroyer escort USS Thomas during World War II in the Atlantic, traveling from Greenland to North Africa from 1942 -1945. He married Doris McKeown on November 26, 1960 at St. Bonaventure RC Church, Paterson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years: Doris (McKeown) Martin, His loving children: Ellen Martin and her husband Pete Apruzzese of Mountain Lakes and Barbara and her husband Steven Donnelly of Mountain Lakes and Don and his wife Mary Sue of Mendham and his son John of Wayne, his dear sister: Ruth Shenton and five grandchildren: P.J. Apruzzese, Patrick and Kelly Martin and Meaghan and Erin Donnelly. He was predeceased by his brother, John in 2007. Visiting hours will be Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church, 580 Ratzer Rd., Wayne will be celebrated by Fr. Dan Kelly. Interment will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
