Ed was a longtime friend of mine, although he had many friends that were much closer than me, Ed was such a warm person that I felt close to him. As guitar players we used to sub for each other frequently, he definitely influenced me to do some things musically that I still do today. I was able to spend some time with him when he was in rehab, that was the last time I saw him , I was extremely saddened and dismayed hearing of his passing. I know Ed was loved by many and he will be surely missed. Rest in peace my friend.

I am so saddened by Ed’s passing. He brought joy to many through his faith, friendliness and music. As a kid going to Mass at OLC in the 70’s/80’s I was in awe of Ed’s singing and playing abilities - I believe he played an Ovation guitar which I thought looked really cool - and of the entire folk group ensemble that he led. More recently I was thrilled to hear Ed had returned to OLC to lead a music ministry group once again. When in town to visit my parents, we would be sure to attend Ed’s Mass and chat with him afterwards. He has left us too soon. May he rest in peace and may his music resound throughout Heaven and in our hearts forever. I pray that his family finds condolences in their memories and the tributes from all who Ed touched over the years.

I never knew Ed, but I ran across a Facebook post that mentioned his folk mass at OLC. I was only 7 or 8 but I remember those masses well. I've often wondered why other churches never adopted that type of musical selection for masses. I saw a You Tube post from OLC that brought back all those memories from that time. The best part was that it wasn't until I was in high school that I found out that Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, James Taylor, etc were not religious hymns! A great talent that made huge impression on me, but I never knew who he was until now. Rest in Peace Ed.

Wow...such a talented, great, handsome man gone way too soon. I remember being on flag squad in Wayne Hills and Ed was in the band. He rocked his "afro" which kind of danced with the music. I'm glad I got to see Ed on Easter but sad that I didn't see more of him in the years since "band camp". Rest with the angels Ed.

I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. I know Ed from OLC - when I was young we would go to the 5 o'clock folk mass and later when I was in HS I started signing (and eventually playing guitar ) with the group. Ed was such a huge talent - he was always patient and encouraging to us all. He inspired me musically and that is something I could never thank him enough for. I have such fond memories of those days and just recently came across an old music book from Folk Group - which my kids thought was funny when I played some of the songs for them. Eddie - you will always be alive in my memories and heart - May you Rest in Peace .

Ed was not only a fellow student at WPC but was also a fellow musician & teacher. He and I would play on the lawn in front of Shea Auditorium during lunchtime and people would gather around to hear guitar and saxophone jazz tunes. I keep that memory of joyful music in my heart and think of him fondly. Rest in Peace, Ed.

One of my first students at Wayne Hills HS and a dear friend and musical colleague for over 40 yrs. A superior human being who could light up a room with his mere presence...a wonderfully talented musician and dedicated educator. I and my family are deeply saddened and will miss him terribly as will an entire musical community.

Eddie was a great musician and a great friend. I had known Eddie from the folk group at Our Lady Of Consolation. He always had a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. He brought so much life to the music he played and made other musicians feel that for what they were playing as well. I knew through friends he was a great teacher and will certainly be missed, but his was a life well lived. He brought warmth and friendship to everyone he met.

Eddie was the singular most amazing musician I have ever known. He was my guitar teacher, but he taught me so much more than how to play. When Eddie sang and played it was not just the music you heard... it was an expression of love, of passion and of great joy - you felt the joy that he played with and it made an impact. It wasn't just the guitar chops, or the theory, or the style, or the vocals - though they all contributed... but mostly it was the love and the amazing energy that you felt.
He brought so much joy to so many people for so many years. So many of our lives were made richer because he was a part of our lives. I will always love him like a brother.
His voice and guitar are the sweetest sounds that I have ever heard. I will miss him so much, yet I know also that the music in heaven just got a serious upgrade with the addition of Ed Thompson. The Apostle Paul tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord and we do have that blessed assurance with which to find comfort even in this hour of grieving.
Thank you Ed for teaching to play with love, with passion, and with joy. Thank you for talking my parents into buying a Fender Stratocaster for me back in 1982. Thank you for playing 'There is Love' at our wedding. Thank you for being Ed Thompson. I will love you always and some day we will jam again.
With the deepest of love and remembrance,
Your brother in music and in Christ our Lord and Savior,
Neil Ascione
