Obituary of Maria K. Stern

Maria K. Stern of West Milford has passed away at the age of 92 on October 9, 2016. Formerly of Pompton Lakes, Maria lived her last 6 years at the Chelsea at Bald Eagle, in West Milford. Born and raised in the small town of Bensheim, Germany, Maria started a career working for the German Postal System where she met the love of her life, a US Army private by the name of Joseph Stern. They were married in 1947 and shortly after that they came to the United States to start their new life together. They moved around the country for a brief time while Joe remained in the military. They finally settled down in Wanaque to raise a family and eventually moved to Pompton Lakes. Maria spent most of her life as a homemaker, raising her 2 sons and being a devoted wife for 69 years to the late Joseph Stern, who recently passed away in April of 2015. Maria is survived by her devoted sons, Albert and Joseph, Jr., her dear her brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Charles and Effie Stern and sister-in-law Audrey Van Hook. She was the beloved grandmother (Oma) to four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Maria was predeceased by her two brothers and two sisters. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, 295 Totowa Rd, Totowa.
