Obituary of John Kalman Vajas
John Kalman Vajas Sr., age 90, born in Alpha, New Jersey and a longtime resident of Paterson, entered into eternity on July 22, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.
John proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and South Pacific. While in the Navy, he started boxing and after his honorable discharge, went on to become a New Jersey Diamond Glove and Golden Glove Champion, as well as winning the Tournament of Champions NYC, and Chicago Inter City Team. Following his boxing career, he started his own construction company before entering law enforcement where he retired as a Passaic County Sheriff's Officer.
John is survived by his Beloved wife of 68 years, Alma Mae, age 92, his Loving children: John K., Jr. and his wife Ellen, Alma Maye and her husband Agostinho Lousada and Matthew and wife Dara. He is also survived by six devoted grandchildren; Lara Vajas, Heather McFalls and her husband Michael McFalls, John M. Vajas, Daniel and Sabrina Lousada, and Adrianna Vajas. He is predeceased by his great grandson Michael John "MJ" McFalls and joins him in heaven.
John will be remembered for his love of country, athletic accomplishments, hard work ethic, amazing strength, magnetic personality, and dedication to family.
Friends are invited to a family gathering on Thursday July 28th, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 7:30PM.
