Obituary of John Austin Lepter

John Austin Lepter, 90, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on March 4, 2016, in Nashville, Tennessee. John was born in Manchester, Connecticut, to John William and Mary Ann (Minnie) Lepter in 1925. He graduated from P.S. #21 and Eastside High School, both in Paterson, New Jersey, and attended Eastern Nazarene College for one year following World War II. His employment career included the shipyards in Jersey City, New Jersey, the Molded Latex Company that made everything from rubber toys to observation balloons for war time use, and Public Service Electric Company where he started in 1953, was promoted to Chief Stockman in 1968, and retired in 1989. He enjoyed sports and reading equally. John Austin Lepter is survived by John Douglas (Samuella) Lepter, son; Nancy Ann (Randall) Kern, daughter; John Wesley (Pamela) Lepter Sr. – grandson; Nathaniel Kern – grandson; Rebecca Kern – granddaughter; John Cody Lepter – great-grandson; John Wesley Lepter Jr. – great-grandson; Austin William Lepter – great-grandson; and Patrick Ryan Lepter – great-grandson He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Evelyn (Peggy) Lepter, whom he married in June 1948 and who passed in October, 1986. He is also preceded in death by his parents, John William and Mary Ann (Minnie) Lepter, both of Paterson, New Jersey. John served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during W.W. II with the 286th Engineer Combat Battalion and saw action in France, Belgium, Germany, and Austria. Decorations included the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was recalled during the Korean Conflict as an engineer training instructor with the 807th Engineer Light Equipment Company at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held at Moore's Home for Funerals, Wayne, New Jersey, on March 8, 2016 from 10:00 until 12:00 P.M. A Funeral service will be held at 12PM. A graveside committal will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, New Jersey.
