Obituary of Joseph Desmond Chastanet

Joseph Desmond Chastanet, age 86, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Hospice of New Jersey, Wayne. Mr. Chastanet was born March 6, 1929 in Castries, St. Lucia, the sixth of ten children, of the late Arthur and the late Iris (Montplaister) Chastanet. He was a longtime resident of Wayne, moving there in 1967. Mr. Chastanet graduated from the University Of London, and in 1959, earned a Master's degree in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He retired in 1994 from Converse Consultants in Parsippany, where he was a civil engineer for 31 years. Mr. Chastanet is survived by his beloved wife Teresa (Groeller); his loving children Catherine Chastanet Leighton, Teresa Chastanet Scriptunas and Robert Chastanet and six cherished grandchildren. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, 45 Urban Club Rd., Wayne will be celebrated by Msgr.
